What a year for Solid-State Sunlight! 2024 witnessed the release of the debut EP. Seems so pedestrian now, but what a massive undertaking it was! Since we’re looking back, let’s share a 2024 wrap-up really quick.
Specifically, ’tis the season of Spotify Wrapped. It didn’t occur to me that artists received these, but today I discovered we surely do! Rather than summarizing my own listening habits, it summarizes those of the listeners. And in short, I am stunned. When everything went live earlier this year I anticipated very few people would experience my first record, but I was wrong. At time of writing, hundreds of you did. In fact you listened to it for more than 18 hours on Spotify alone!
Lately, I’ve been back in the studio creating some fresh bleeps and bloops. The productivity feels good, but some days just feel… futile. There are more bands than people, more noise than signal, and the industry has gone so far beyond late stage capitalism that old-timers like me occasionally miss the days of cold-calling radio stations. Yet here we are, in possession of irrefutable evidence that the signal is getting reflected out into the world somehow, and that made my day. Thanks to all of you who listen, follow, and support this project! I couldn’t do all of this without you.
